When I was young I was very overweight. I was active but never understood, or cared, to learn about healthy eating habits or nutrition. When I was very young I participated in group sports like, basketball, football, soccer, martial arts, and so on. Then I began wrestling and lost 40lbs in 3 months, the WRONG way! I finally understood that I could not eat whatever I wanted if I was going to attain a better, healthier body.  I started weight training/cross training at age 14 and haven't stopped since.  I have been working out 5-6 days a weeks for the last 13 years both in and outside of the gym. I am fortunate to have developed a passion and understanding for fitness at a young age. Over the years my passion for fitness has only grown stronger! It's a never ending work in progress, but I am excited to step up to the challenge every day! My mission at Evolve is to help as many people as possible by using the knowledge I have obtained from my years of education and life experience. Our goal at Evolve is to help others understand the need for balance of exercise and nutrition. I do my best every day to make an impact on as many people, young or old, as possible to better there lives with positive energy, attitude, and activity! As well as to try and help build a healthy foundation and set a standard for a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

There are many tough questions we must ask ourselves when faced with challenges.  While I can't solve all of your life's problems, I can certainly help to simplify the fitness process.

With over 30,000 hours of gym experience, I have just about seen it all, and most of it twice. I have certifications from the  American Council on Exercise (Personal Trainer,1997; Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, 1998), USA Track & Field (Coach, 2004), and The National Academy of Sports Medicine  (Personal Trainer, 2010; Corrective Exercise Specialist, 2012).

Over the past 12 years I have trained clients in every classification.  Whether it's people that are new to exercise, or men and women competing in the Ironman Triathlon Series, I have worked with them all. My oldest client has been a 94 year old World War II veteran, and my youngest to date was a 6 year old T-ball phenom.  From my experiences in life and athletics, I feel at home working with anyone.  My specialty is anything running related.  Whether it's running speed for sports, running mechanics, injury prevention, or running efficiency I get excited for it all. I've never met a runner I didn't like, or a problem that couldn't be fixed!

I have a tremendous passion for the artful science called personal training, where trainer and client form a successful team with a common goal.  I am enriched daily by the people I encounter and wouldn't  want any other profession.

"If not me, then who? If not here, then where? If not now, then when? "

I have been helping Chicagoans reach their individual fitness goals since 2004.  I enjoy the fact that everybody has unique needs.  One session I might be using plyometrics and jumping around with lots of movements,  and the next hour I might be using isometrics( little to no movement), and the next person I train might need both!  This variety is what keeps me in the classroom to continue my education in the field and what gets me up in the morning.  I owe it to my clients to stay on the cutting edge of the fitness industry and to create a clear path to what will benefit you the most.  The end result is a well rounded, safe, solid, and effective path to help you reach your personal goals.

My passion began when I was about 6.  I can remember my doctor’s advice, that I shouldn't start using weights until I turned 8 years old.  Now don’t laugh, but I can remember a Hulk Hogan workout set I got for Christmas when I turned 8.  It came with a hand gripper, jump rope, 2 dumbbells, and a tape to take me through a 30 min workout.  I loved it!.  A few years later other parents took notice that I could run circles around their own kids that where my age.  A parent asked me to help his son exercise.  I understood then, at 12 years old,  that getting another person to be able to do what I could do was a challenge.  I could do 40 or more military presses standing on my head, so is that what he wants?  How do I help him?  Is that his goal? Is it safe for him to try?  By the time high school came I had standing clients in the weight room of our school, and even had an abs class in my parents basement!  I studied A.C.E  and A.F.A.A. in high school and started taking workshops as soon as I was 18.  The questions started young and I have come a long way since then.  I have not lost that very same interest with every client I have the privilege to work with.  Whether you are a professional athlete, have never worked out a day in your life, or are somewhere in-between, I will focus on your exact needs. Now let’s get started!

At 29 years old I feel like I have lived so many lives. I went from being a pack a day smoker and drinking every evening to an amateur boxer, personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder.  My life changed in 2008 when I started working at a privately owned gym in Cleveland, Ohio.  Our gym often held mixed martial arts (MMA) fights every couple of months, and I was hooked.  I wanted to get in on the action, so I found a martial arts trainer at my gym to take me under his wing and teach me how to box. I quickly realized that my poor lifestyle choices were limiting my ability to train. I had to choose between the unhealthy smoking and drinking habits and my new found love of fighting. The choice was simple, I wanted to fight! For the first time in my life I felt that I had found something that I was naturally great at! I won my first fight in March 2009 and won and my second fight in 2010.
A year later a new door opened up to me.  An amazing woman named Heidi approached me with the idea of competing in an amateur bodybuilding show. Although I had no idea what that fully entailed at the time, I agreed. I loved the idea of getting bigger more defined muscles and possibly winning trophies for doing something I now loved, working out! I learned how to feed my body correctly and how to lift in ways to get bigger and stronger. I learned true discipline! Within a matter of months I went from being soft to lean and muscular. I was on top of world doing 4 shows in one year taking first place in two shows and second in another.
I had changed forever, this is when I took on the challenge of becoming a personal trainer. I knew I had to share what I had learned and experienced in just those few years. If I could change my life so drastically anyone could and I wanted to help people see that! So I moved from Ohio to Chicago and now I am personal training at Evolve Fitness Chicago.

I began working in the industry over 10 years ago and had no idea how much fitness would end up meaning to me. In 2006 I was involved in a traumatic car accident-breaking five ribs, three back vertebrae, two neck vertebrae, my foot, lacerated my liver, punctured my lung, and had a pulmonary embolism-resulting in an infection, destroying my right lung. I was told I would never walk without serious impairment in my gait, and function with less than half the wind capacity of an average adult. I took this as a starting point, and anything but a final destination. Through rehabilitation I found one could work toward any destination. I have had the unique opportunity to experience how vulnerable and strong the human body is. Health and wellness are central to my being and I strive to help others find the same enthusiasm.

I have been involved in a wide variety of sports my whole life ranging from football, basketball, and track to boxing or triathlons. Fitness has been a huge part of my life but growing up, but being a trainer never really crossed my mind, even though what I feel I nave been destined to do was right in front of my face the whole time. It actually took being laid off from my job, watching my mom have a heart attack (and surviving), and my grandma passing away to put me on the path to becoming a trainer. After all that occurred in a 3 month span I began to take my stress out at the gym and decided to look up a career in training, which landed me at the National Personal Training Institute. Since I graduated from NPTI I realized the fitness industry is ever evolving and if you don't change with it you will get left in the dust; which has motivated me to travel the world and engross myself in all different fitness modalities to ensure my clients the best results. With my holistic approach to training we look at the BIG picture and not just what happens inside Evolve. LETS GO!
